Requirements vary by role, but many positions value transferable skills such as communication, active listening, problem solving, resilience and a strong patient focus. Previous contact centre or customer service experience can be helpful, but it is not always essential.
Most roles involve supporting patients and their families or carers by phone, email or live chat, handling queries, updating systems, resolving issues, and delivering a positive patient experience while following company processes.
Yes, many Patient Services roles include performance expectations such as quality, productivity, patient satisfaction, attendance and adherence to process. We look for people who can balance efficiency with excellent service and a supportive, caring approach.
Yes, for some of our roles we welcome applicants from retail, hospitality, care, sales and other customer-facing environments where communication, empathy and problem solving are important. We do have some roles where we prefer you to have experience of working in healthcare environments such as 111 or 999.
You may be expected to use telephony platforms, CRM systems, email, live chat tools and Microsoft Office. Confidence using systems and learning new processes quickly is often important.
We will provide you with an induction and role-specific training covering systems, products or services, compliance requirements, patient handling and internal processes. Ongoing coaching will also be provided to make sure you feel confident and equipped to perform at your best.
Be ready to talk about examples of patient service, handling pressure, resolving problems, working to targets and communicating clearly. Do your research and review the job description so you can link your experience to the role and be able to ask us any questions you might have about our organisation and the Patient Services function.
We’re looking for team players with patience, empathy and adaptability. Our Patient Services function is busy and each day is very varied. You’ll need to have great communication skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
